Buying high in Europe
30.11.1999
Is it really necessary to buy high in ski resorts?
The argument for buying above 2,000 metres in European ski resorts is rife in the UK media, with direct comparisons being made between resorts in France and Switzerland and global warming at the heart of the argument. It is true that in France buying high is advisable. This is due to French resorts having to suffer the warm winds coming from the Mediterranean, compromising snowfall in lower areas. In contrast, Switzerland is a landlocked country and therefore resorts do not need to be as high to offer good levels of snowfall. But, how much of a concern is global warming to potential purchasers of ski homes?
