Economy
Tourism contributes very heavily to the economies of the Caribean islands, providing 70 per cent of jobs in the region and accounting for 70 per cent of each islands' GDP. This has in turn led to increase in demand for construction. The import and export of traditional products such as bananas, cigars, sugar and rum is still very important to the islands economies.
Offshore banking is also an important part of Caribbean commerce, particularly in The Bahamas and Aruba.
